However, Dr. Carter had not really provided any critical information regarding the FDA delay situation. Is he going to just wait indefinitely? Even though he may not able to get any definite answer from FDA, I will still want to know that he has aggressively contacted FDA about the delay instead of sidetracked to other potential opportunties which are not helping to calm down the immediate concern of investors. While I knew full well no body --- not Dr. Carter, not us, or any one else --- can do any thing about the FDA's delay, about FDA delays in general, I wanted to gauge Dr. Carter and HEB's reactions to the delay, especially one that, according to HEB was in explicit disregard for the FDA's own institutional reputation. Again, I knew Dr. Carter would be no more privy to the FDA's mysterious working nature as we are... And, yet, to me these instances show why the new FDA chief/commissioner, Dr. Hamburg, initiated a committee to explore ways WITH the FDA, so as to enble the agency to be more TRANSPARENT in its activities, so that it won't be this mysterious, where they can tell us definite time-lines "between 1 to 2 weeks" and totally disregarded them, pretending the time-lines, or deadlines, or appointments, were NEITHER given NOR important... To me, this kind of disregard for one's own timeline in decision-making activities that affect millions in many ways... it is not to be tolerated. As I noted in my question which you put to Dr. Carter, we do NOT expect an aswer/decision we want. But we should expect common courtesy from agencies working on our behalf. If they're going to delay meetings or decisions FURTHER, it is common courtesy to tell the public why. And I just found out, through a case with Savient Pharmaceuticals KRYSTEXXA drug, that the FDA DOES SPEAK TO THE PUBLIC on drugs UNDER REVIEW! The FDA Friday, 6/12, came out to the public to announce, more or less, that they had a difficult time with KRYSTEXXA. The agency's doctors/decision makers SEEM to think the data show promises, good enough to pass, but yet it is still not comfortable enough, so chances are, the agency said, it will convene a panel of experts from OUTSIDE of the agency to gauge their professional expertiese, before making any decision --- whether in the drug's approval, rejection, or in asking for further data... That, to me, is VERY PUBLIC! So, again, we know the FDA DOES TALK about drugs under its review. This nonsense --- every time we call the agency --- about "we don't talk about drugs under review" is BS, now we know unequivocally. To me, this is very valuable information. Again, I hope the new commisioner, Dr. Hamburg, do something to make this agency more user-friendly, more responsive to its customers, US, and acts and behaves more professionally, taking/treating the public, private and public insitutions, and other entities with more regard and common courtesy...
